Alabama Launches ACIS Online

Most Alabama attorneys recently received an email inviting them to review the Alabama Appellate Courts’ new online service, ACIS Online, by signing up for a free Level III Trial Subscription.  The service is in the last stages of beta testing, and the free subscription will last until the end of May or middle of June.  At the end of the trial period, your subscription will be converted to pay-as-you-go status unless you elect to sign up for a different subscription level.  Even if you don’t routinely handle appellate cases, you might want to check the system out.

During the trial, ACIS Oline Level III access offers efiling in Alabama’s appellate courts as well as unlimited access and case tracking information in all cases in which you appear as attorney of record.  You also get an allowance of 450 pages per month for documents in cases in which you are not an attorney of record, and you may also monitor up to six cases of interest in which you are not of record and receive tracking information when significant events in those cases take place.  You may have notifications in your cases sent to up to six people.

After you sign up for the service, you’ll receive an email message with a temporary password.  Once you log in, you can change the password to something of your choice.

The Main Menu provides a listing of all your pending cases and alerts that are specific to them, as well as Information Bulletins of general interest, including court rules change alerts.  You also get access to PDF versions of opinions released within the past 30 days.

One caveat:  by signing up to try the system you agree to receive all future notifications from the appellate courts by email. According to a note on the site’s log-in page, efiling using Firefox can be glitchy and Mac users should use Safari 4 or higher.
