Montgomery, Alabama, October 21, 2013 – What do these books have in common, Anatomy of a Murder, QB VII or The Caine Mutiny? They are three of the top 25 greatest legal novels ever written, as judged by an American Bar Association panel of experts.

If you’ve never read them, or the other 22 selected, and want to help a good cause, then mark down the date of October 26, 2013. On that day, the five volunteer lawyers programs in the state will receive a portion of the sales from the Books-A-Million (BAM) Bookfair scheduled at all BAM locations throughout the state. Volunteer lawyer programs provide free civil legal services to low-income Alabamians.

State Bar President Anthony A. Joseph of Birmingham (Maynard Cooper & Gale PC) said, “At a time when funding for civil legal services has been drastically reduced, we are grateful to Books-A-Million for its generosity in helping volunteer lawyers provide service to low-income clients.” Joseph said lawyers will be handing out vouchers printed with a special Bookfair ID number that can be given to cashiers so purchases may be credited.

Ten percent of the proceeds from sales on that day are earmarked for the Alabama State Bar Volunteer Lawyers Program, Madison County Volunteer Lawyers Program, Birmingham Bar Association Volunteer Lawyers Program, Montgomery County Bar Association Volunteer Lawyers Program, and the South Alabama Volunteer Lawyers Program.

The 17,600-member Alabama State Bar is dedicated to promoting the professional   responsibility, competence and satisfaction of its members, improving the administration of justice and increasing public understanding and respect for the law.
